Authentication Failure When Installing VMM Agents
Hello,
I am having problems with deploying the Linux agent on one of my servers.
My current configuration:
BL40P with ESX 2.1 and 4 VM's running.
Insight Mgmt Agents installed.
So here's what happens:
In SIM, my server is seen as a LINUX Server.
So I go to Deploy, then Virtual Machine Management Pack and then Install Linux Agent.
The Task runs and then it completes but in the log it says it failed.
I get some mx authentication failure exception or whatever.
So i read the manual for VMM and it says to try using the "mxagentconfig" utility.
Which i did. I put in the host name, user as "root" and the password.
Click connect and i get a failed message saying it couldnt' establish a connection. At this point i'm quite puzzled.
I went into the ESX Service Console itself and ensured that hte network was working by typing in: "hostname --ip-address" and it returned the proper IP address that i configured it to.
So what do I do? I don't know how to get around this issue.
one other thing is that I can't access the esx management homepage using the name.
Like in the ESX console, the black screen says something about going to http:///
but when i punch that into a browser it doens't work. But hwen i use the IP address, it does and i am able to get into the page. Could that have anything to do with it?
I'm really puzzled. Please help. Thanks

Re: Authentication Failure When Installing VMM Agents
Sounds like you have a DNS problem. Your ESX server may not be automatically registering with DNS. Have your network people verify that it has a record in both forward and reverse DNS lookups.

Re: Authentication Failure When Installing VMM Agents
I'm having the same issue and I don't have a DNS problem. Did you ever resolve your issue?
