Brocade SMI Agent and SIM???

I am trying to use the Brocade SMI agent with HP SIM but not sure how it interact with the HP SIM. I have SNMP setup to monitor the Brocade switches but I was told installing Brocade SMI Agent will provide more details. Has anyone use the SMI Agent and HP SIM? I ran the Brocade SMI Agent configuration tool and I was able to connect the Brocade switches. So my question now is how do I make HP SIM use the Brocade SMI agent to detect the Brocade Switches.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Brocade SMI Agent and SIM???

I've not done this, but I thought it would use the wbem credentials to talk to the SMI. This is how HPSIM communicates with CommandView.
Not sure if HPSIM would talk to the Brocades directly or via a Managment interface. That would determine which devices would need the wbem credentials added that allows access to the Brocade SMI.

Re: Brocade SMI Agent and SIM???

I am unsure because the installation guide does not say anything about HP SIM. Hoping someone has success using SMI with HP SIM.

Re: Brocade SMI Agent and SIM???

Your SIM Server has a tool wbemdisco to verify if you can connect to the brocade SMI-S agent.
Take care that you do not have port conflicts

SMI-S is using the default port 5989 which is also used by WBEM or SMI-S Interface for CommandVirew EVA. If you have multi SMI-S/WBEM Agents on one maschine you also need to edit the wbemportlist.xml file in the configuration directory tree. This is also a good place to get the brocade namespace.

If you can connect to the agent with wbemdisco and you edited the credentials for the system inside SIM. You need to run a discovery and you should see after a while port details for the switches inside HP SIM.

Re: Brocade SMI Agent and SIM???

I use the webdisco tool to try the connection and it works just fine but the HP SIM does not detect it for some reason. Do the server where SMI-A is install has to have webes as a protocol in System management homepage inorder for this to work? The protocol under teh system manage homepage show SNMP as teh data source.
