Can HPSIM alert on power supply or failed harddrive outtage?

I just setup HPSIM 5.0, can it send an alert if a power supply comes unplugged? Also can it send an alert if a harddrive fails? I am having trouble finding this option in the configuration.

Thanks

Yes, it can. Make sure that you have the HP Insight Management Agents installed on your managed devices and configure it to send the notifications to the SIM server.

Just to make it clearer, it's the agents on the servers that detect these errors and send SNMP Traps back to HPSIM.
So if you have HP hardware with the HP Agents then the answer is yes, but you do need to configure SNMP's Trap destination.

If it's not HP gear or there are no agents installed then no, HPSIM cannot detect these conditions by itself.

Ok, so this is a server side setting? Its HP hardware, do you guys know where I need to go to configure/install the agents? The servers were autodetected from the HPSIM console when I added their IP address range. The only alert I seem to get now are reboots and pings.

Re: Can HPSIM alert on power supply or failed harddrive outtage?

Depends on HW and OS and how the server was built.
If you used Smart Start then the agents will be installed.
See the following for tips on the software site
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01364745

You then need to follow the links to the server type and OS.
For Proliants there's a Proliant Support Pack that contains the all of the drivers / agents in a neat bundle. The latest version is 8.00.

You need to configure the agents and this can be done before deployment. Part of this is a certificate that HPSIM uses.
If you search this forum you'll find answers on how to configure that.

The HPSIM Technical Users Guide, go to www.hp.com/go/hpsim and look in the Information Library for a wealth of good material.
