Can re-install SIM after uninstalling and reinstalling BackupExec
I initially installed backupexec 9.1 which created MSDE. I installed SIM which created a DB on MSDE. I had problems with Backup Exec and had to uninstall which removed the MSDE, then reinstalled. Backup Exec is now happy although SIM would not work so I uninstalled SIM and tried to reinstall and I get the "unable to connect to specified database server". Anyone have any ideas.

Re: Can re-install SIM after uninstalling and reinstalling BackupExec
Hello,
I've got the same error on a brand new install of HP SIM.
I'm running Win2k3 server, SQL 2000 SP3a.
The account I'm using to do the install is a member of the local admins group & the SQL Admins group.
I've tried using the servername, full DNS name, ipaddress, localhost & 127.0.0.1 for the name of the database server. I'm having no luck on any of these.
I've even used a different password for the account & this reports back correctly that the password is wrong. It just cannot connect to the database server (which is local, not a remote SQL instance).
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks
Alan.

Re: Can re-install SIM after uninstalling and reinstalling BackupExec
Jim,
Dunno if this can help you, but here goes.
i had SQL installed on W2kServer which i upgraded to w2k3 server. I then applied the SQL SP3a but could not get HP SIM to find the database server.
I finally gave up & removed SQL server, rebooted the box & reinstalled SQl 2000 & Sp3a and HP SIM installed first time.
Hope this is of use
Rgds
