Can't login to 4.1 on CMS

I have started fresh with HPSIM4.1, MDAC 2.8, Java JRE 1.4.2_03, ie6.0 w/sp1, and the sim4.1 critical update.

I still can't get ie to get into sim. It just hangs and task mgr shows ie "not responding".

I have attached a snapshot of exactly what programs I have loaded on this W2k Proliant server. Please Help Me!!!

The attachments seemed blank to me.

How about trying to login from a remote workstation?
Have you tried stopping & restarting the Insight Manager Service?

Was the IE Patch ms04-025 installed as well, just wondering if the IE patch needs to be there if the HPSIM patch has been installed.

Is the database that HPSIM is using okay?

Hi Rob. Thanks for responding.

I have attached a word doc showing the programs installed on the CMS (W2k + sp4), and a screenshot of ie trying to login to sim (not!).

I backup up and started from scratch (again) loading the MS04-025 patch from MS; Java JRE 1.4.2_03; and a fresh install of HP SIM + the HP fix.

As you can see from the screenshot of ie, I am still not having any luck. Is it possible that PCAnywhere is interfering with this?

Also, I can pull up HP SIM on my workstation (not the CMS) using ie just fine and the database is populated with servers.

Let me know if you have any more ideas for me to try. Thanks.

If you can access HPSIM fine from a remote workstation then I'd say HPSIM is fine.
I'd guess at IE Settings preventing something from running? I don't know if you'd want to start relaxing the IE Security there.
Do you need to be able to access HPSIM directly from the Server? If not just manage it from your Workstation, otherwise you'll probably waste quite a lot of time chasing around IE Security.

I don't think it's relevent, but JRE 1.4.2_05 is out that addresses some security issues and it works fine with HPSIM.

Thanks again Rob. I should probably give up the fight for now and just use SIM from my workstation. Thanks for your help.

By the way, I did try just about every version of Java with the same results. If I ever do get it working, I will post it for anyone else having this problem.

I have the same problem for quite some time now and I am not running other applications on except SIM 4.1 and Backup Exec.

Orginally I had the IE update on there, could not access SIM from the console. I waited for the 4.1 patch, applied it, still no luck.

I can access SIM from a workstation and all is well, so I am just leaving it at that.

I have had issues where IE was configured to use the MS version of JAva rather than the SUN version Another possibility is if you have multiple versions loaded, IE may e configured to use the older version of Java.

I have made sure that I only have the one version of Java running (unless IE hides it somewhere). How do you make sure you're using the correct version within IE?
