Can you Change name of HPSIMS server (and IP address)?

Without destroying HPSIMS and the SQL database connection for HPSIMS on the same server.

What I'm going to do, is upgrade from Insight Manager 7 to HPSIMS 4.x. This upgrade will be to a new server with better hardware.

After the upgrade, I would like to decommission the old IM7 server and change the host name (and IP address) of the new HPSIMS server to match that of the old server.

This way, all of the managed hosts (300 of them) will not need SNMP to be reconfigured to point to a new server.

Does anyone foresee issues with this strategy?

Can it be done?

If so, how?

Don't know if you saw it but there is a whitepaper out there on how to change the server name. Also, there is a current thread (title: Error after CMS hostname change ) that you may want to follow.

Yeah thx -- I saw that whitepaper. After looking at the 10 pages, I'm wondering if it is smarter to do a configuration task to attempt to update the snmp config on all 300 hosts?

Or would it be better to try and change the new HPSIMS server (in accordance with the Whitepaper) to the host name and IP address of the old Insight Manager Server?

Any opinions out there?
