Cannot collect data

I am getting this error. SNMP is working for other mgmt applications.

The device does not have any supported instrumentation.

Re: Cannot collect data

When is this occurring? What application and/or service is being affected?

It could be caused by restrictive SNMP settings on a managed device. If "Accept SNMP traps from these hosts" is used in Windows, make certain both localhost and the hp Systems Insight Manager 7 is present in the list.

Re: Cannot collect data

I am having the same error/problem for 30% of my servers, it occurs during the data collection task.

SNMP settings are correct, as well localhost as Insight server is added as accepted hosts.

Re: Cannot collect data

On Windows platforms, try also adding modifying a community string to have READ-WRITE permissions, then add that community to the Traps tab community field. Add both the SIM server and localhost as destination servers.

Within the hp Management Agents Applet in the Control Panel, click on the SNMP tab and enable SNMP sets.

Check the Services file under [root]:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and ensure that the SNMP Service uses port 161.

Ensure that there are no SNMP packet filters, such as firewalls, web accelerators, switches, routers.

The device will have to be recognized as a server. If it is recognized as a different device or worse yet, an "unknown", data collection may be lacking or not possible altogether.

Hopefully, between all these steps, you will get better results.

Re: Cannot collect data

Make sure that SNMP is a discovered protocol for the system by checking the protocols listed on the server's property page.

Re: Cannot collect data

I solved this by restarting SNMP...
