Changing SIM default Database
We were having major problems with SIM so we decided to uninstall and reinstall the application. The database is hosted on a remote SQL server. We originally upgraded from HP Insight Manager 7 to SIM 4.1 then to SIM 5.0.
The problem I now have is the following;
After the reinstallation, I now have two Insight databases, one with my previous migrated data and the other which is empty. I need to change the default database back to my database with the migrated data. Below are the steps I have taken to try and resolve this issue myself.
I uninstalled SIM 5.0, rebooted and reinstalled it. However when it reinstalled it, it created a new empty database on the SQL server named Insight_v50_xxxxxx. The old database is still there named Insight_v42_xxxxxxx with all the migrated data from Insight manager 7. The reinstallation also created 2 new ODBC System Data Sources, another "Master" and "Insight_v50_0." I am assuming that the new install is using the "Insight_v50_0" data source. I changed the default database for the Insight_50_0 data source to be the Instight_v42_xxxxx database, and rebooted. Unfortunately this did not solve my problem in accessing my migrated data. So this leaves me with one other option and one question. I can Uninstall SIM 5.0, Install SIM 4.1 then upgrade to 5.0. My only fear is that when I install SIM 4.1 it will wipe out my still good database.
A) Is there anyway to change the default database back to the Insight_v42_xxxxxxx database???
B) Did the installation of SIM 5.0 change the master database so it does not recognize the old Insight_v42 database? I am not sure what role the master database plays in this process.

Re: Changing SIM default Database
Hello,
If I understood what you said, you want to use your SIM 4.2 database with the version 5.
So Install the SIM 5.0 and after change the ODBC parameters. Here, you can indicate the name of your server and the database; choose the one, and after restarting your server, you should access to the database that you have chosen.
Hoping what I said, will help you.

Re: Changing SIM default Database
you can also take a look at the database.props file in the config folder. The line hp.Database.databaseName=Insight_vxxxxxxxx will identify which DB HPSIM is using.

So long as you have a known good SQL backup, this won't be an issue in itself. You could always wipe 5.0, delete the 4.1 database and reinstall a vanilla 4.1 SIM. You could then restore the SQL 4.1 backup over the top of the new vanilla one of the same version. Then, if you feel lucky you could try upgrading SIM 4.1 to 5.0 with the database intact. If that fails (like mine have), you can always repeat this operation and re-group. You will need to reboot along the way and clear any sql connections to the database if your restoring. Either stop the agents to do this or shut down the server temporarily.
