CIM 5.0 - Should I put WINS on the TCPIP Stack?

I'm curious what affect loading WINS on the TCPIP stack will have. I have around 20-30 servers which don't resolve via DNS and just their IPs show up.

Thanks,

Rich

Do you mean "Compaq Insight Manager (Win32) 5.x" or HP Systems Insight Manager 5.0? HP SIM doesn't use WINS at all for anything. If you can't fix DNS, consider a local hosts file.

HPSIM needs to have both forwards and reverse lookups working before it will display the device as a Server.
Try using nslookup on the HPSIM Server.

I saw that I typed CIM when I meant SIM. I'm most curious if there are detrimental effects to loading WINS into the IP stack on the SIM 5.0 server. Over the course of time in my 4.0 and 4.2 CIM servers I had some uppercase, some lowercase, some that had the full name (machine.fairview.org), some that only had the machine name (machine).

I don't think having WINS will harm HPSIM.

It won't give you any additional name resolution in HPSIM though.
