Compaq Storage Agents causes IIS failure
Hi all,
we have a lot of servers with Compaq Inside Manager 5.40.0.0 - Windows 2000 Server (SP4) - Compaq ProLiant ML330 (1GHz). We have installed these components of CIM:
- Compaq Foundation Agents
- Compaq NIC Agents
- Compaq Remote Monitor Service
- Compaq Server Agents
- Compaq Storage Agents
- Compaq System Shutdown Service
- Compaq Version Control Agent
- Compaq Web Agent
We have problem with Compaq Storage Agents. After reboot sometimes and only on some servers fails IIS Admin service (and also dependent services FTP, Exchange, SMTP..). In logfile is this error message
EventID 7009: Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the IIS Admin Service service to connect.
When I try to start IIS Admin manualy this error appears:
Could not start the IIS Admin service on local computer
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion
In this time (after reboot) I can't manage any other services. I can't stop, start, reboot any service. I have been solved this problem for long time and I found only that problem depences on Compaq Storage Agent service. When I disable this service, everything looks like ok. Have you got any idea how to solve this? Thank you for your help.

Re: Compaq Storage Agents causes IIS failure
We run IIS on a number of Servers, and we run the HP Agents on all of them.
I've never seen the problem.
But, 5.40 is very old now. You should consider downloading the 6.40A softpaq and updating your Servers with this.
7.00A is out now, it's new but I've not had any problems with it.
I would recommend updating the entire softpaq, not just the Web Agents.

Of course this is one of the solutions, that I can try. Problem is that we have about 3600 servers with CIM 5.40 and deployment of new version is dangerous step for us. Therefore first I'm looking for solution with version 5.40. Update is the last possibility for us. If you have any idea where problem could be, write me pls.
BTW. Does new version support choice of unattended installation?
Thanks

Re: Compaq Storage Agents causes IIS failure
Sorry, I cannot offer any advice as regards fixing problems with 5.40 Agents.
I only have a couple of Servers running agents that old, due for decommissioning soon. They do not run IIS.
Insight Manager does have a remote deployment option, you do it via the Group Configuration Tasks. But you'd certainly want to test it on a number of Servers first. I've had issues using it in the past, usually with the OS not rebooting.
