Re: configure SNMP trap destination
SNMP trap destination is set on the hosts (agent level). This is done so that SNMP knows where (localhost; SIM server IP/name) to send the information.
SNMP community strings are configured on both agent and SIM level for them to communicate.

Re: configure SNMP trap destination
Thank you Albert.
So I can configure SIM agent to send SNMP trap to any SNMP receipient?
In addition, I check the SIM User Guide that one can configure SIM CMS to forward automatic event as SNMP trap to a SNMP receipient.
Any difference in the two approaches? Will the forwarding correctly indicate SNMP trap from the originating monitored host, and not the SIM CMS?

Re: configure SNMP trap destination
HI,
I just wanted to confirm that you need SNMP protocol installed on all hosts to configure settings via SIM agents.
So I can configure SIM agent to send SNMP trap to any SNMP receipient?
--Yes you can do that, but I guess the idea is to send this info to a CMS server so that you can manage all hosts more easily.
In addition, I check the SIM User Guide that one can configure SIM CMS to forward automatic event as SNMP trap to a SNMP receipient.
--Yes this is possible, I have prefered to use email communication.
Any difference in the two approaches?
--Well it is different, as host SNMP trap reports to the CMS and then the CMS forwards this alert to whoever you wish to delegate it to.
Will the forwarding correctly indicate SNMP trap from the originating monitored host, and not the SIM CMS?
--Yes the detailed information should in this message indicate this.
