Data Collection Interval setting

Hi,

OS Window 2000
CIM Agents Ver 6.40
CIM7 SP2.3

Can anyone confirm if changing this setting, say to 60 mins, under the HP Management Agents applet in the control panel means that, say for instance, if one of the redundant NICs is lost, then it won't notify the CIM7 server and thus page/email until then?
If I change it to 5 secs then it seems to work fine but I'm sure that originally even it was set to 60 mins, if I lost a NIC then it sent the SNMP trap immediately.

On this note, are there any pros or cons to setting this value higher or lower?

Thanks

Re: Data Collection Interval setting

I believe the default value is 2 minutes.
It depends on whether the failure itself generates a Trap or whether it depends on the polling interval of the Agent.

It does imply some failures may not be reported for 60 minutes.

I guess the only con is a radically shortened interval might impact performance of the Server. The con for a longer interval is a lower immediacy of failure reporting.

If you have a Server with a redundant NIC that is enabled but with just a loop back connector, pull the loopback connector and see how long before the SNMP Trap is sent.
