I am trying to get HP SIM to send alerts for vSphere. I compiled the MIBs and the SIM receives the alerts fine. The problem is when those alerts are forwarded on via email, the trap details are not included in the email.
Here is what the HP SIM console contains for a trap from Virtual Center:
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Event Severity Informational
Cleared Status Not cleared
Event Source wsvmvc02
Associated System wsvmvc02
Associated System Status Normal
Event Time Wed, 11/4/2009, 5:11 PM EST
Description This trap is sent when entity alarm status changed.

Trap Details:
This is the trap type in the preceding traps. vm
This is the name of the host in the preceding traps.
This is the name of the VM in the preceding traps. WSCHPA01
This is the new status in the preceding traps. Yellow
This is the old status in the preceding traps. Red
This is the current object value in the preceding traps. Virtual machine cpu usage - Metric Usage = 99%
Mib Information
The associated MIB File Name for this trap is VMWARE-VC-EVENT-MIB.mib and the MIB identifier VMWARE-VC-EVENT-MIB
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Here is what I get emailed to me for this trap:
Event Name: (SNMP) vpxdAlarm
URL: https://wsvmvc02:2381/
Event originator: wsvmvc02
Event Severity: Informational
Event received: 05-Nov-2009, 08:02:09
Event description: This trap is sent when entity alarm status changed.
The trap details are missing from the email
How do I get the alerts that are emailed out to contain all of the trap information like the trap details?

Solution
There are different formats in which you can receive the emails. The HTML format email gives the maximum details at this point in time. Can you try changing the format to HTML for your task, if you have not done so already?

Re: Data sent when specific alerts are sent via email
Interesting, HTML based alerts does include everything I need. I will have to play with that and see if it meets our needs or if I can make it work with different event settings. We have pagers and BB devices that are better with plain text.
