DB Error When installing SIM 4.01
When installing SIM 4.01 I get the following error when it tries to connect to the MSDE DB "Unable to connectto the specified database server" I'm installing as the Server Admin. Checked the permissions on the DB and looks ok. Any ideas?
That shouldn’t be a problem

Re: DB Error When installing SIM 4.01
Was there a previous DB on this server? either SQL or MSDE? If so make sure all left over directories have been removed.

No luck. Removed the previous MSDE DB (including dirs) but get the same error.
That shouldn’t be a problem

Re: DB Error When installing SIM 4.01
Just a disclaimer, I am not a support person nor have I tried this....
*** Use this at own risk, always backup your registry before doing anything with it ****
Here is a MS KB article on a manual removal of MSDE, I am wondering if after a program unistall from Control Panel if any of these reg keys are still intact. I have noticed on some of my installations that MSDE re-installs just fine and I had a the same error you had only once, but I had blew away the server and rebuilt it without investigating these possible items.
