default polling
Hi, I am new to HPSIM5, prior to moving over I used to use the Compaq IM5. I am a bit confused when a machine is added it always appears as green. On the old Compaq version everything used to appear black until snmp was configured correctly and the there was communication to the device. With HP IM5, although I know I have configured snmp but I do not have the confidence as to whether it is polling or I have lost communication with it. Is it a case once snmp is configured for the machine any loss of contact will be reported? Is there a manual check to see if a device is polling correctly within IM? Any help on this would be appeciated, thanks.

Re: default polling
In HP SIM5 you see green icon under HW, this shows there is network connectivity between SIM server and host server. This is done using PING. If this conectivity is lost, it is reported.
In HP SIM5 if SNMP is configured and running properly SW status will give you status info. Could be green, orange or yellow icon depending on severity. This will report on the status of HP PSP and firmware status on hosts.
"Is there a manual check to see if a device is polling correctly within IM?"
You could send test traps between SIM server and host.

Re: default polling
Hi Richard,
Here are a few more ways to check. You can always go to Options > Status Polling > Hardware or Software polling. If Sim cannot poll the server, you will get an error. Per the last reply, with a check in the green circle in the HS column, Sim knows there is a system out there. You can use the SMH (System Management Homepage) to send a test trap as well to verify connectivity. The HS column icon will change if there are issues, trust me on this one.
Cheers,
Kim
