Device Type Setup
Hello there. I just upgraded from CIM7 to the new HP SIM yesterday and I have a little question. I used to have a task set up that would notify me by e-mail when a router or server went down. I would have this task look at device lists by type to get its information. With both the old CIM7 and this wonderful new program, I would only have about 60% of my routers actually be discovered as routers. The rest of them are just "Unknown". With CIM, I would be able to go in and change the device type and force the system to make it a router. I have not yet been able to find where I can do this in the new SIM.
I did mess with the "Manage system types", but it looks like I need the OID to register a new type. I was kinda hoping to avoid having to set up a bunch of new devices that way.
Is there a way to just force the system to recognize particular devices as a certain type? Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Device Type Setup
A couple of ways. Click on the device from HPSIM, click the Links Tab and then go to the Edit Properties Link.
If the device does have SNMP on it then adding new devices isn't that difficult. From the Manage System Types just click the Retrieve From System next to the System Object Identifier box. From there you just need the IP Address of the device you're going to add.
Just keep stepping through, the only thing you may want to look at is the match criteria. Once done just reidentify the boxes you think should be picked up.
