discovering servers with host records
I have been trying to add in a set of servers via a host file but seem to be having problems with getting a full domain name to be acepted. For instance, server1.domain.com would be found but it would only appear as server1 the .domain.com would be lost - if I add these in manually then it works fine.
We have a WAN which hosts multiple domains, the services which the servers run are identical in each WAN so each server has to be uniquely identified. For instance, each WAN has a mail server so I would have mail.domain1.com and mail1.domain2.com.

Re: discovering servers with host records
Yep we tried it too..
Can get the servers in but not with associated names.
If you add manually you can, but not for a Hosts file.
Even if you put one in and see how the hosts file has written it, copy the format and do it... still no good.
You can however add approx 500 servers manually in about 2hours LOL... i know that from before we had a hosts file :)
