Email tasks status is pending. Where can I look?

CIM5

Can anyone suggest the best place or log file to look to investigate why my email tasks work for about 16 hours then hang in with a a task status of "pending" and when I reboot the server, the job's status turns to "some failures"?

If I could see a reason why the emails were pending then I may be able to resolve this.

Great if anyone can assist!

Many thanks

Rosco

Re: Email tasks status is pending. Where can I look?

I've had this happen in previous versions, and the solution was always to find the offending machine.

What seems to happen (IMHO) is that SIM cant communicate with that particular machine and "hangs" a task, such as ID or software poll etc. Then all others get hung up as Pending behind that one task. But even if you cancelled the hung up task, the next task is so far behind it wouldnt work. Deleting the 1 system (try to identify the machine by looking through the "hung" task in Task&Logs- All Task Results, check for a running task, check it's logs) and a restart seems to free up the system. Also, once in a while that offending machine needed a restart.

Hope this helps..

In my case it was a memory shortage on the Sim 5.x server.

What are the specs on your environment? I'm running sim 5.1 (w/sql) on a BL25pG1 with 4gb of ram monitoring around 1500 servers

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. This was so long ago I can't remember exactly the reason how it was resolved. It was either the relay server rejecting lots of requests or when we SPd the server. Either way the issue went away.

Thanks again,

rosco.
