I am in the process of installing/updating my Windows servers for SIM. One of them appears to have a failed previous uninstall or install of Compaq Management Agents. They do not show up in Add/Remove Programs and won’t run from Control Panel. When I attempt to install a Support Pack, it fails with: “Version Control agent is not available”.
I then attempt to install just the VCA, and that fails with: “Version Control agent is not available”.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions?

Solution
If you have downloaded the PSP, you could try running the setup.exe that comes with it. This starts the Remote Deployment Console, from this you can install the entire PSP, you can also configure the agents using this as well.

Re: failed Compaq agents and Version Control agent is not available
Whoo! Hoo! That did it. I had tried running setupc and targeting the ailing server, but without success. By copying the PSP directly onto the server and running setup, it all worked as advertised.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Re: failed Compaq agents and Version Control agent is not available
You don't even need to copy the PSP, a mappped drive will do it or run setup.exe from the server that has the PSP and point the RDC to the problematic server.
