Having trouble trying to set certain event alerts

In our 600+ server environment I want to set up alerts when something goes down and when it is back up.
"All Events" is just too much info. For example if a server reboots I get about 7 alerts for that one server.
Setting "critical" "major" and "normal" isn't enough because I don't get notifications about a drive that has successfully rebuilt.

Basically want I want to get event notifications for would be the following:
Server reboots or is down and when it comes back up.
Any hardware failure and when it is repaired or rebuilt.

Basically if something breaks or goes down and I need to know when it is back up or repaired.
Any idea what event notifications would need to be set for this???

Re: Having trouble trying to set certain event alerts

You can select just All Critical Events. I just have one that covers all Major and Critical Events.
But you seem to want a mixture of most Critical and Major Events and some Informational Events, that's not possible as a simple setup. You'd need to say set up a critical & major catch all and then a separate handler for selected Minor & Informational Events.

Re: Having trouble trying to set certain event alerts

I have the same issue with HP SIM. Since the alerts are based on collections and it appears you cannot create a collection of events that is a subset of the existing collections, therefore creating a collection (for the purpose of creating an email alert) that consists of just 2 events (for example 'cold start' and 'link down') is not possible. To be able to create an alert based on only 1 or 2 particular event seems essential.

I donâ t get it - this canâ t be right. There must be a way to do this.

Re: Having trouble trying to set certain event alerts

I finally just did "choose the events that I will specify" and then chose "event type is" and went through the entire list and picked what I wanted. This is time consuming but so far it seems to be working. I am still in the process of testing the events.

Sure enough I guess I didn't notice the + sign next to the catagories. A pain to scroll through them - but it works.
