Host invisible

I'm trying to add an host by discovering it .
I set its IP and tried to discover it .After the process finishes the host doesn't show on the all system view .

Then I tried to add it manually but when I type its node name I've been told that such host already exist .

So I tried a search with its name but it reported none

So how can I get rid of the "invisible" host ?

thanks
Stefano

Re: Host invisible

Hi Stefano, try looking in your events for around the time you tried doing the discovery on the device. You should see a discovery event for when it was found and you can click on it to see the details.(You should also see what it discovered the system as in case you need to delete it and try again.)

SIM seems to retain the discovery events so if it was ever found at all there should be a corrosponding discovery event for it.

You could also create a discovery event collection if you have a lot of events and it is hard to find or filter in the "All Events" view.

Hopefully this helps you find it.

Re: Host invisible

I looked at the "all event " and found discovered system events for other servers but not for the "invisible" one .

Re: Host invisible

Is it possible that the IP is resolving to more than one hostname in DNS? So that when SIM did the discovery it found the server name for the IP as an older hostname?

You can search by IP also. Perhaps you have already tried that.

Also, if you have any "orphans" in your list, delete them and try again.

Re: Host invisible

The easiest method to find the missing IP address is to open a command prompt on the SIM server and run mxnode -ld > nodes.txt

Then search the file for the IP address to determine what node it was associated with.
