How to get HP printers working with Insight Manager...
Hi all
We have a variety of HP printers onsite, that get identified in Insight Manager as Jet Direct devices (great). However, whilst the newer printers identify name correctly (Host name set on the printer), older devices report the IP address as the host name. Also, serial numbers, etc, don't get fed from these older devices.
I am guessing that I need other MIBS to support these older models... I've actually been hunting for MIBS, and found, downloaded, and installed every possible HP MIB and tried it to see if there's any difference in identification, and with no success.
Am on the right track in that not having a correct MIB is the issue here? Any ideas? I really just want to get at a minimum the correct host name and serial number, but the rest of the info (paper, toner, etc) might be handy later.
Thanks, Dave

Re: How to get HP printers working with Insight Manager...
Dave,
My only suggestion was going to be SNMP. I thought if the community strings were properly configured it may report more accurately, but I just tried this with some of my printers and no such luck. I would be interested in doing this as well.

G'day Jason
Yeah the SNMP is set correctly and the same on all devices - just the newer devices tend to report better than the old ones. Let's hope someone knows...
