Install ProLiant Support Pack for Microsoft Windows Server 2003 from:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/22871.html
It will install managements agents, HP utilities and drivers.

Re: How to install HP Management Agents

The best thing to do is to download the PSP (ProLiant Support Pack) from the HP website. The reason is the HP website will have the most current version.
Also, you may install the PSP from the SmartStart CD, the current version of the CD is 7.40. Simply insert the CD into the ProLiant and the install program should start automatically, just follow the instructions.
NOTE: You should have the Windows SNMP service running and configured BEFORE installing the PSP, if not the install will be very slow, will it waits for a response from SNMP, the it finally gives up and completes the install with errors.

NOTE2: The PSP includes all the latest drivers, the HP Insight Management Homepage, and the HP Insight Agents.

NOTE3: You can download the SmartStart CD as well as the ProLiant Firmware CD. I highly recommend that you boot off this CD when you have a new ProLiant server. This CD will update the system BIOS/firmware, the iLO firmware, the RAID controller firmware and the SCSI disk drive firmware all at one time, its great!

Re: How to install HP Management Agents

Thanks Guys.
I have downloaded the PSP and cut it to CD.
As the Cd does not autostart, can I run the setup.exe?
For new servers I use the smartstart cd to install.
This is an existing server that has the agents installed but the HPSIM does not recognise the server, shows up as unknown system type. This servers management home page does not display anything in the overall system status.

Re: How to install HP Management Agents

Most likely you have unknown device because SNMP settings on server.
By default Windows 2003 configure SNMP to only accept requests from "localhost". Change the configuration to accept requests from all hosts or add the SIM server to the list. After doing that run identify systems task and SIM will detect server correctly.

Re: How to install HP Management Agents

Done that. But these servers don't have the snmp agent settings under the settings tab in the device home page, only shows the system management homepage on the settings page.

Re: How to install HP Management Agents

Check that the SNMP service is running and configured.
Stop/start the agents by going to the Control Panel, Management Agents, click on/off any check box and click OK and you'll be prompted to restart the agents.
