HOWTO:- Set up SIM to send a notification if a systems is down, and when it comes back up

Hi,

Is it possible to configure SIM to send an alert if a system system goes down (e.g. operating system crashes), and when it comes back up.

Thanks
Andrew

Re: HOWTO:- Set up SIM to send a notification if a systems is down, and when it comes back up

You can create an event automation task options->events->automatic event handling-> new task

on the select event type you need to specify event type System is unreachable and system is reachable. You will find them by expanding the systems insight manager events.

Depending what you plan to do you need to add other attributes and you can define two task one for a system goes down and one for the system which are again reachable.

I would also recommend a collection of system on which you want execute the tasks.
This gives you the change to avoid test systems down and up noise in your event statistics.

Have fun playing with the tasks.

But before playin up with AEH task, make sure the system has the snmp service and snmp trap service, Up and running the the Manage system(the systm from where you want to recieve the events) is discovered with SNMP and has the valid community string

Note: incase if you want the events from an new Hardwar(eg:where the mibs of that hardware is not registered, Make sure you chack the option "Accept Unregisterd Event in options->event Filter Settings
