HP 7.2.0 Agents on VMware ESX 2.5.0 Patch 1 show no hardware

Greetings everyone!

We had installed the 7.1.2 agents on all our VMWare ESX 2.1.2 servers and they worked fine for us.
After an upgrade to ESX 2.5 Patch 1 they still worked.
However, we were foolish enough to uninstall them and install the latest 7.2.0 on one of the ESX Servers and were not very happy with it.

First observation was that no login was possible until someone had logged in to the console of the (actually headless) server via ILO.

Second observation:
Although all the agents seem to have been installed o.k. none of the hardware is actually shown on the System Management Homepage. None whatsoever.

Only way for us now would be to restore the server to ESX 2.1.2 with the old agents and bring it up to ESX 2.5 again keeping the old agents.

Has anyone observed the same problems or does anyone have an idea that might get them working? Would it help to file this as a support case for the respective HP CarePack???

We're running ESX 2.5 with the latest HP Agents and they're showing up fine.

Can you browse to the page and login, what do you see from there?

Are you logging in with the appropriate user permissions or is anonymous access enabled? Maybe try logging into the agent as root?

Hi!
Thanks for your answer.
When I log in to the page as root I get the following list on the left side:
Integrated Agents HP Management Agents for Servers (foundation component)
HP Management Agents for Servers (Server component)
HP Management Agents for Servers (storage component)
HP Management Agents for Servers (NIC component)

Only the last (NIC) is clickable and shows a blank page that says no more than "Nic" as a title.

Those links in the left margin are erroneous and came about by accident when the way that the agents registered themselves into the SMH 2.0. They can be ignored.

When you say none of the hardware is show, can you post a screenshot.

And nothing in the main panel?
As David said, a screenshot maybe useful.

The Web Page should show a similar set of boxes to what you would see in an agent on a normal Server.
I see boxes for:
Storage, Management Processor, NIC, Recovery, System and Utilization.

On mine the Storage is flagged as Amber for reasons only it knows as all of the Space Usage is fine. But at least I can then drill down and see the details.

you may have noticed that the NIC is the only clickable link.

And this is how it looks with the 7.1.2 agents installed under ESX 2.1.2 UPDATED to ESX 2.5 running on an identical HP Server.

The single Home-tab problem is usually caused by an application running on the System Management Homepage that is timing out. The two specific instances that I am aware of are:

1) Version Control Agent installed but is not configured to talk to a VCRM - or for some reason the VCRM that is configured is not reachable.

2) Problems with the SNMP configuration that cause management agents to timeout while trying to talk to the SNMP stack.

These are just suggestions, you might check into the VC possibility. A large percentage of the time the screenshot you posted showing the single-Home tab look is caused by one of the agents or applications not responding to the SMH and it times-out.

hi

we ran into the same problem.
what i noticed is, that the functional server "knows" the Management Processor, the server schowing nothing on the System Management Homepage "doesn├В┬┤t know" the Management Processor.

ESX installation is the same on both servers.
ILO Firmware is the same on both ILOS.
