HP Insight Manager Agent for VMWARE ESX 4.0 requires ESX reboot
Hello,
We have multiple C-class blades running vmware esx 4.0. To install the HP insight manager agent for vmware esx 4.0, this requires a general ESX reboot :
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=be&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3454575&swItem=MTX-f6677776c89348d48a24384c9d&prodNameId=3562405&swEnvOID=4040&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=3
(That was not the case with vmware esx 3.5 in the past where no reboot was needed).
Is there any workaround to avoid the reboot ?
The problem is that those servers are in prod and cannot be rebooted easily.
Thanks a lot !, Bye
Jason

Re: HP Insight Manager Agent for VMWARE ESX 4.0 requires ESX reboot
I can't answer directly, but there is the same issue when you're adding additional providers to ESXi.
But with ESX clusters you should have enough resources to take a host out during the day.
This allows for these kinds of updates to be done during working hours.
The "Enter Maintenance Mode" feature of ESX does work well.
