HP Procurve - <unknown> in HPSIM

Hello,

I have a HP Procurve 4208vl-96G switch which shows up in HPSIM 5.1 as unknown instead of Switch. Is there anything I can do about to be identified correctly?

Thanks.

Hello Karoly,

Try running the Configure or Repair Agent settings tool located under the Configure menu. Also, Community strings in HP SIM must match the ones used for the remote device. Ensure HP SIM and the systems are using the same community string. Note that community strings are case sensitive. From HP SIM, select Optionsâ Protocol Settings and select Global Protocol Settings, or System Protocol Settings to make the changes. & not the least, Routers and switches in the network must allow SNMP traffic to pass on UDP ports 161 or 162.

Regards,
James.

Re: HP Procurve - <unknown> in HPSIM

Configure or Repair Agents is not going to work on a switch since it requires an operating system authentication to work. Besides, CRA isn't needed here. 'Unmanaged' would mean that it couldn't communicate over SNMP. This says 'Unknown' which means it can communicate over SNMP but doesn't have a rule to classify it.
