Re: HP Rack and Power Management software
You should be able to install HPRPM 1.1 software on the same machine running HPSIM. If you are using the Serial Relay Agent, make sure that you install the update for it. The readme has sections about setting the software with HPSIM.
How many UPSs are you managing from HPRPM? If for the case of single UPS, you may try to use HP Power Manager software. It's a much simpler application to setup and use.
Information for both applications can be found at http://www.hp.com/products/ups and select Software section.
Thanks,
Steve

Re: HP Rack and Power Management software
1) It's perfectly ok to have both HPSIM and HPRPM on the same machine. However, when you are browsing into either HPSIM webserver or HPRPM webserver, make sure you use separate browser sessions to avoid crazy JRE conflict (having to install different flavor of JRE indefinitely)
2) HPRPM is the right application for managing multiple UPS via network connection. You will need to discover the UPS devices via the software first before managing them.
3) There are 2 places for HPRPM to be integrated into HPSIM.
a. To add a particular HPRPM instance into HPSIM "Tools" menu, read the instruction in the HPRPM readme about running the hprpm.xml file.
b. To make HPSIM recognizes HPRPM instance (even on the same machine) and add its URL onto the Server's device "Link" tab, you must edit the "additionalWsDisc.props" file and add a new entry for HPRPM application. The readme file has a section which talks about this but it unfortunately resides under HPRPM and IM7 integration. The instruction should work for both HPSIM and IM7 though.
For UPS monitoring tools, HPRPM can be configured (via its SNMP settings) to send traps to HPSIM. You may view the HPRPM.MIB file for trap details.
