HP SIM 4.1 with HP Openview NNM

Does anyone have any experience with running HP SIM 4.1 and HP Oponeview NNM on the same Windows box? Can these two apps co-exist?

Re: HP SIM 4.1 with HP Openview NNM

Good Morning Tom. I will try to clear up the questions that you have on this issue. My replies will be indented and in blue to your questions.

Even though I install the Insight Integration, don't I still need to install HP Systems Insight Manager 4.1?

The Compaq Insight Manager 7 application or the HP Systems Insight Manager application is not required to be used with the integration. The integration works by interpreting the information from the management agents installed on the Compaq/HP hardware to your NNM platform. It gives you the different icons and trap interpretations. Some customers do run both applications in their environment.

Can I install it on the same physical hardware as where HP OV NNM and Insight Integration are installed?

If you are considering installing HP SIM I would not recommend it being on the same physical hardware. HP SIM is a very resource intensive application. I would thoroughly review the installation and user guide for recommendations on system requirements.

Will installing both (SIM4.1 and HP NNM) on the same box reduce the amount of snmp polling?

No, the same polling tasks are going to run regardless of where the application is installed.

If you have further questions, please let us know.
