HP SIM 4.2 and Printer monitoring

I noticed that I can force HP SIM to detect and jetdirects. What information can I get then from jetdirect when it is in SIM? Will I get notify when there will be paper jam? Or only hardware failures supported and what exactly failures? Thanks.

And one more addition to my question. When I put one jetdirect to my SIM and pulled out network cable from it - notifying message and jetdirect status changed only after 7 minutes:( Is it normal? I want to get notifications immediately or at least after 1 minute. What do I need to change?

I've been wondering the same thing.

I believe the issue with immediate notification is related to the "Hardware Status Polling for non-Servers" scheduled task. By default it runs every 10 minutes. You can schedule it to run every 1 minute.

You can also install Web jetadmin as a HPSIM plug in and view printer status

But this plugin is for WJA 7.5 and not for 7.8 version.

The direct PDF link is broken on the site. Here is the correct URL for what you need:

Re: HP SIM 4.2 and Printer monitoring

I have installed the Web JetAdmin plugin and I believe it is much better than using HP SIM to monitor them. Even though the Web JetAdmin is on the same server, it doesn't slow down the server quite a much.

One caveat... I would not recommend to enable full scale monitoring on all your printers, especially if you have a lot. I tried this, and it caused Web JetAdmin to be extremely sluggish.
