HP SIM Agent 8.0 on ESX
Hi!
I have a problem with the HP SIM Agent on ESX. As you can see in the readme of that agent the lib files for the HBAs are not included anymore within the HP Agent. The procedure in the readme for Qlogic HBAs works (download files from Qlogic, rename file) but for Emulex it doesnt. What i found out so far is that the HP SIM Agent is looking for a file libemsdm.so which isnt in any of the packages on the Emulex site. But i found the file in a other package (which isnt for ESX servers) on the HP site (hp-lpfc-2007-11-19.tar). When I extract the file libemsdm.so from there and copy it to the lib folder the HP SIM Agent can see the HBA. But i think there should be a better way to do it. Maybe HP can provide the file in a better way or Emulex publish a package where the correct file is included.
Mike
PS. Renaming the lib files which are included in the packages on the Emulex site dont work.

Re: HP SIM Agent 8.0 on ESX
I stumbled upon the same problem with 8.0.0, and decided not to use the storage agent at all with my Emulex cards. Enabling it is not documented well, and if you make it work you are looking for trouble. Also test that the NIC agents report events in SIM, I've had problems with this too with 8.0.0.
Concerning the storage agent, I enabled it on 7.9.1 by moving the librairies as directed, but when I tested if it actually worked and reported a link loss, the cmeventd process started spinning, consuming a whole CPU, and it was not killable (even kill -9). I had to reboot the ESX server.
I ended up writing my own script to remotely monitor the cards, using the proc filesystem.
Olivier.
