HP SIM Alert Notifications stopped working

Hi.
I am running HP SIM Ver 5. SP5 on OS W2K3
It has been setup to log events of certain criteria such as Critical, Major, Unknown etc.
and monitor defined server groups, Sending an email notifiaction when triggered.
However the email notifications have suddenly stopped working,
Events are still being logged within SIM under All Events but no longer within the alert groups setup. (Events - Shared - Groups filtered depending on server type, ie production, development etc.) I have checked exchange and this is all working fine. Plus to verify this we have received a couple of email notifications but only when the auto event handling task ran. These filtered through to the relevant alert group, ruling the setup of the filters out and exchange\SMTP relay.
There is a Hardware status polling task that runs 24 x 7 every 2 minutes, which is still functioning and reporting that it is completing successfully.
Everything was working fine, No changes were made, However The alert notifications just stopped.

Does anybody know what could be causing this? or have any ideas of possible fixes.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

D.

Re: HP SIM Alert Notifications stopped working

I have had trouble with this occasionally as well. In my case, some people would get the alerts and others would not. I just restart the HP Systems Insight Manager service and this seems to fix the problem.

Re: HP SIM Alert Notifications stopped working

Hi David,
We has exactly the same problem earlier this week, and found out that the security team had blocked port 23 on the SIM server. I believe this port is used by telnet on the SIM server to connect to the exchange server to allow it to send emails.
Hope this works for you. Please add points for me if it does.
Regards
Colin.
