HP SIM doesn't start up

Guys

don't know if you can help, having problems setting up HP SIM.

SIM has been previously installed on the network but i've decided to move the manager from one server to another.

But having installed it on this server i'm now unable to configure it.

I've still as yet been unable to run the first time wizard. When i double-click on the SIM icon, the 'checking http service'splash comes up, but does not advance from here regardless of how long i leave it.

Looking at task manager, cpu is maxed out, mostly on mxpassword.exe and mxdomainmgr.exe.
mxinventory.exe is also creating multiple instances and expanding to several GB of memory if left.

I saw that there was another thread relating to this, but that seemed due to a changed password. I haven't even go into SIM once since install when passwords were accepted. No passwords have changed.

Please help, it's driving me mad..

thanks

Stuart

Re: HP SIM doesn't start up

What happens when you use a web browser to go directly to the URL instead of using the icon provided by HP (which launches some funky service checker thingy):

https://servername.domainname.com:50000

Re: HP SIM doesn't start up

Hi Nelson - thanks for the reply

hmm..seem to be having troubles there as well.

If i try to open it locally on the server, i receive page cannot be displayed, if i try to browse to it from another machine, i receive 'port invalid'

Re: HP SIM doesn't start up

Hi Stuart,

one thing it may be, the splash screen will sit there timing out if its unable to open the database.

Make sure that the database is running.

Also, check the ODBC system DSN for SIM and run the test. If that fails SIM wont run.

Sorry I haven't got more!

Re: HP SIM doesn't start up

thanks tom

i agree it looks like a database issue.
i've reinstalled about 5 times now, pointing to a different SQL database each time..getting confused..
i've also tried creating a new database for it and pointing it to this..

is there any means of reconfiguring that anyone can think of, other than a reinstall?

Re: HP SIM doesn't start up

Side thought, do you have IIS running on the machine?

The reason I ask is that by default IIS listens on all IP addresses (even if you explicitly set 1 within IIS console!!) you need to disable socket pooling to stop this behaviour. But as a test, stop IIS

This "feature" gets in the way if you run a second web engine on the same box.

(Ive never tried IIS and SIM together, but Ive seen this in other cases)

Re: HP SIM doesn't start up

Hey Tom,

I have IIS and SIM running on the same box. I does work, but I would agree to not recommend it. I do it out of necessity, but not the best arrangement.
