HP SIM - email alerts when HW health check is not ok
Hi Everyone,
I have just installed HP SIM and would like to setup an automatic email notifications when health check will fail. I've configured everything (email details, events notifications etc.) and it does not work. I'm getting notifications when i login and logout but when i simulated hw failure by removing the drive from the drive no event was generated thus notification was not sent. What should i do in order to make healt check failures appear as events? Is it possible at all?
Best Regards,
Marcin

Re: HP SIM - email alerts when HW health check is not ok
SNMP Trap destinations need to be configured on the client servers. The destination is the HPSIM Server.
The agents detect the fault and send the SNMP trap back to HPSIM.
You can test this by using the HP MAnagement Agents GUI in Control Panel and using teh Trap Send. That should create a major Generic event. Your event handling will do the rest.

Rob's exactly right, sounds like you don't have trap destinations set up. If you go into HPSIM under Configure, Configure-Repair Agents task, you can set this from SIM and it will change the managed node and rerun the Identification task in SIM. It will make sure community strings match and the trap destinations are set correctly.

Re: HP SIM - email alerts when HW health check is not ok
Thanks for suggestions guys but it seems the problem is somewhere else. The trapsink and rocommunity are set in snmp.conf and set to valid values. I've tried to send test trap from console but no event has been generated. In logs i found command that is used to send this trap. It is:
/usr/bin/snmptrap -v1 -cpublic helios enterprises.232 6 11003 system.5.0 s helios enterprises.232.11.2.11.1 i 0 enterprises.232.11.2.8.1 s Test Trap
When i tried to execute this command from the shell i have the following:
helios: Unknown Object Identifier (Sub-id not found: (top) -> helios)
Any suggestions as i have no further idea what is wrong.
Thanks in advance.
