HP SIM: Minor: The discovered server cannot be associated with its management

Hi,

I have dicovered several servers within my network with HP SIM. All server have this minor issue:
Minor: The discovered server cannot be associated with its management processor. For Windows and Linux, verify that the supported HP Insight Management Agents or WBEM provider is installed on the server. For HP-UX, verify that the WBEM Services version has the Management Processor provider. Also, verify that the management processor has been discovered in HP SIM.

Strange, because the insight management agent has been installed on all servers. Anyone got an idea?

Re: HP SIM: Minor: The discovered server cannot be associated with its management

Do you have already discovered the Ilo IP address range? and set the system credential for the Ilo access?
Or did you not connect the Ilo's to your network?

Check on the system management home page of
one of the system if you can see ilo information. Some times the ilo driver is not raly installed or not working. Good indication is that you see in the SMH SN and model type of your system.

I did not connected the ILO to my network. Is that necessary? I thought I have to pay to use the ILO port.

The system management homepage is working fine. But, indeed on my smh it says that the ILO is not connected.

Re: HP SIM: Minor: The discovered server cannot be associated with its management

Don't worry The Minor error in this case during the discovery means only HP SIM tried to access the ILO but because the agent could not read an IP address for the ILO (by default ILO is set to DHCP). You can run your SIM without ILO connection. But you will see the missing connection in the Health status.
Some time a problem because you do not see changes in case something else generated also a status change with the same severity.

You should speak with your HP, HP Partner or HP Support about the ILO license model.
Depending on your server type it could be that you have access to most of the functionality.
(e.g. status check/ switch on/off are enabled in most systems depending on the age) The license model has recently changed an if you have newer system it is worth to discuss the details. You can save for example a lot of energy only by enable the dynamic power mode. Depending on the processor type the advanced ILO function can change voltage and clock rates of the processor based on CPU workload. Depending on your application and user load you will easily save much more than the license price in a short time.

Thanks again for your reply.

The only problem is that that the health status of some servers say that there is a major issue. Please see the attached schreenshot:

Re: HP SIM: Minor: The discovered server cannot be associated with its management

On the screen shot I can also see that one of your NIC is also not connected. If you disable this network port it looks better.

1. This gave me the idea that you can also disable the ILO port. If you have a system which you can easily reboot you could try to find an option in the ILO setup.

2. If you go to option-> discover global settings you can define what SIM should discover. If you never use the ILO this could be an option for the minor error in the discovery. But I guess you will any way see the major error in the status if you did not disable the ILO NIC Port.

3. There is also a method to disable or change the ILO IP address on a running system by using a XML and a command utility. See ILO scripting documentation for more information.
