HP SIM problems SNMP event traps

Details:
W2k3, HP SIM 4.2 SP1 installed. All 20 systems are discovered by HP SIM, and if something fails, the SIM sees it within a few minutes.
Only, there are no events raised by SNMP. All community strings are set correctly + destination traps also, I've verified this several times.
I've checked if ports 161 + 162 are open = yes, they're open.
Anyone has any ideas what could be wrong. Any input will be much appreciated.
Grtz, Rein.

Re: HP SIM problems SNMP event traps

Can you send a test trap? Is the SNMP Trap Service started and functional on the HP SIM server?

Re: HP SIM problems SNMP event traps

Yesyes, the SNMP trap service is fully functional. Sending a test trap is possible, but they never appear in the event list of SIM mgr ... grrrr.
Now I was thinking (or doing a good effort), the machine has also Whatsup Gold installed (I know, but it was the clients choice!). This also has a trap handler in it. Could this interfear the traps arriving to the HP SIM?
Would like to have some sort of confirmation before returning to the client.
Btw, thx for brainstorming.

Got the same problem. However, when configuring the SNMP traps in ILO then sending a test trap, it works!
Doing exactly the same in the services of windows. It does not work.
Also looking for the solution of the windows SNMP traps.

Re: HP SIM problems SNMP event traps

Did some further research. I used the w2k reskit tool snmputil in a dos box "snmputil trap" to listen for traps form other servers. Those were configured with the right communities and destination.
When I changed the snmp destination in the webmanagement agents and apllied it (twice), then restaring the agents, then send a test trap...did not work. The listener did not get a trap. BUT after closing the webmanagement agent and starting it again and then sending a test trap. There it was.

So it seems that the send test trap buttun gets messed up after a configuration change. This confused me. But now knowing it, it works, from 7.1 and higher SP's.
