I've created new System Type Management identifiers (and also compiled and included associate MIBs) for printers, AT switches, etc.
Yet HP desktops and thin clients are detected as Unknown or Unmanaged. We just use 'public' for our community. When I try adding a known device type to System Type Management by querying the target with Retrieve from System, it returns 1.3.6.1.4.1.311.1.1.3.1.1 = Microsoft performance MIB.
Can you advise what additional steps may be required to correctly identify HP desktops and thin clients?
Thanks, Barnaby

SolutionTo identify them with my HP SIM server, I install the Insight management client on the desktop : http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&swItem=vc-10825-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
I works also with non HP desktops, like Dell Optiplex. Snmp must be of course configured, no need to define a new system type.
Make some trials before to deploy it, some recent computers really don't like these agents, may be due to a specific HW architecture.
Regards.
