HP-SIM show EVA host mapping as unknown

My HP-SIM 5.1 SP1 shows me many information from two EVA's but not the mapping of VD to hosts. The column "Visible to Host(s)" in the section "Storage Volumes" shows "unknown" in every row. Why?

Best regards

Re: HP-SIM show EVA host mapping as unknown

hi

In order to get this detail of info, you will need to install the HBA provider on the server. This provider will give you the info.

For windows based servers :
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/storageworks/smisproviders/windows_provider.pdf

For Linux based servers :
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/storageworks/smisproviders/linux_provider.pdf

Providers are also available for San Switches. Using SMI-S providers instead of regular SNMP is interesting for it gives more infos on the san switch.

hope it helps,

Re: HP-SIM show EVA host mapping as unknown

Hello Fred,

I think this is the solution. Unfortunately I have an old Emulex LP8000 (DS-KGPSA-CB) in my host (it is a updated SMA-II) which is not in the supported option list of the SMI-provider.

Many thanks

Bernd
