Hi, I have added all our LAN switches to our HP SIM so we can monitor them (we don't have HPOV, btw). We have three network switch platform in our environment (Cisco Catalysts, 3COM SuperStack 3300's and Nortel BayStack 470's). Since I added the Nortel's, I'm noticing that the HPSIM Event Log shows our local Nortel switches having extremely frequent Link Up and Link Down alerts. I tried to modify HPSIM's polling time to make it less sensitive but it hasn't helped. What can I do? I don't know if I am truly having network problems, since we're not experiencing delays or timeouts yet. Thanks

Solution
I've actually split up the Hardware Polling Tasks from the default.
I removed Ping from the default Hardware Polling Task, and created a separate Ping only polling task. I run this one more regulalry. But, I also changed the retries to 2.
The first one is trying a number of protocols before it determines whether the device is unreachable. It may not be ping that is causing a delay, you could try changing these and see what protocol is causing issues and maybe even not using that one as a Hardware Polling Task.

Re: HP SIM showing very frequent Link Up and Link Down alerts
After doing some more reading of HP Tech Support site, I realized that the problem I had is that I haven't loaded MIBs for these switches into HPSIM yet. Since I had enabled SNMP Traps on those switches, the problem was that the switches were having problems talking to HP SIM. I just downloaded MIBs for our switches. I hope to load them in tomorrow. Thanks!!!
