HP SIM V5 SP4 , installing PSP from SmartStart V7.51

I'm doing some testing on updating the VCA's on all our servers. We have DL360's, DL380's G2, G3 & G4. Windows Operating systems 2000 & 2003. What I'm encountering is so far I've attempted to update the VCA's on two DL360 G3's and the VCA has failed. I'm also unable to start these HP VCA on the individual servers.
The message I'm getting on the HP SIM server is - the Version Control Repository Manager has not been named. I'm unable to change the agent sesttings on these DL360 G3's any suggestions?

Do you actually know that VCA is not starting on the servers or is it that you cannot access them? If you have a valid trust relationship between your HPSIM server and the servers that you are trying to update you can try and use the Replicate Agent Settings function in HPSIM - replicating the VC settings from a system that is working.

Do you have a system running VCRM? It is usually installed when HPSIM gets installed. The VCA can have problems if it is not configured to point to a valid repository - I can only assume that is what the error message is that you are getting.

Another option is to reinstall the new VCA component with it preconfigured. The Remote Deployment Utility can be used to preconfigure the component and deploy it to the server. If you try this you need to mark "overwrite" in the preconfiguration and use the force option on the install to make sure the installation actually initiates. In general components will not try to install if they detect that the same or newer version is already installed on the system, hence the need for the "force" option.

Good Luck,

Thank you.

Prior to my testing I pulled a drive (mirrored) so I could go back in case I got in a mess. Since I couldn't get the VCRM to work I powered down the HPSIM server and inserted the backup drive and booted back up. So I"m back to square one.

Hopefully my request to attend a 3 day on line class on HPSIM will be approved since there is so much to learn.

Melinda,

Can you send me the details of the 3 day online class? That sounds intriguing.

Thank you

HP Rail (remotely assisted instructional learning) Course HP Systems Management (HPSIM) offers a 3 day online course for $1800. The course number is U8474S. The course modules cover installing, performance management, vulnerability along with patch management. This course is offered several times a year and whats great about it is you can attend wherever you choose, no traveling. I've requested the October class. I believe there is one sooner.
We've been using HPSIM for over six years and we have had no formal training so I know there is a lot more we can do with this software.
