HP system management application
Question: ML350G5 running VMWARE ESX 4.0.
Guest OS include XP PRO where I have installed SIM version 3.0.0.64
i had read that i can install SIM on a guest OS and it will work . I have installed it on the guest, However all i get is unknown and no info retrieved at all. Can anyone advise me as to what i need to do to get it to function properly if possible? If not, do i need to installs software on the VM host OS to get this functionality?
thanks

Re: HP system management application
HP SIM gathers info from VMs using WBEM/WMI. Make sure you have the WMI Mapper installed and be sure to configure WBEM credentials. Manage Communications in HP SIM will help.

Re: HP system management application
are we discussing the system management homepage and underlying applications?
i have checked the instalation of pegasus and all the settings semm correct. Is there anything that needs to be installed on the HOST VMWARE OS or can this be done by a push from the SIM / other?
is there any guide to how this can be performed?
TY

Re: HP system management application
HP SIM identifies servers through a couple of means. For most physical HP Servers (including the ESX host itself) it uses SNMP. For that you need community names set up that allow the HP SIM Server access.
As David has mentioned, guests are more typically identified used wbem as they can't have the HW agents installed and so don't usually have snmp.
There is a package of agents etc. for ESX hosts. Those are used to monitor hardware.
