HPSIM 4.2/PSP7.30a and Disk Alerts

I've never been able to get disk failure alerting to work using the above. All our servers are proliant.

The only time traps are sent are when the disks are rebuilding. We have been lucky to find the failures through other means. Does anyone have any ideas?

Alerting works really well otherwise.

If you click on the Server name in HPSIM and then the Events tab you can see all the Events associated with that Server.

If an event has been generated check it's criticality.

If not you may want to check on the Server and see if there's anything in the event log.

It can depend on the Storage Infrastructure how storage events are picked up. E.g. our HSG based SAN Infrastructure requires additional agents to monitor the arrays.

Rob,

These are hp/compaq internal disk drives, these are no events within HPSIM.

It appears that disk alerts are very hit & miss, I can't understand why we get the alerts when the disks are rebuilding but not on faiures!!!!!!

What kind of Servers and disks?

You might also want to run up the HP Management Agents GUI (from command console) and check no Storage or related agents are set to Inactive.

I agree I'd expect to see an alert when a disk fails, and here we generally do.

Rob,

They are mainly proliant servers with the usual compaq disks, nothing out of the ordinary.

I thought at one point it maybe down to disk firmware.

I will keep monitoring, looking and asking.
