Re: HPSIM Server is listed with incorrect name

Michael,

I am experiencing the same issue only on Windows 2000 Servers, the problem appears to be when the server is located at remote sites. For example, if I manually discover the system using the IP Address, the server is displayed on the system list has the correct information, then I add another server and the previous server name gets replaced with the new server with a the IP address of the first server.

Does HPSIM have issues with DNS Name Resolution ? It doesn't appear to use WINS as a alternate name resolution like the old Compaq Insight Manager.

If anyone has experienced this issue and has a fix, please let us know.

Thanks - Scout

Re: HPSIM Server is listed with incorrect name

SIM is totally dependant on proper DNS name resolution and requires both forward and reverse lookups be working before the correct server name is displayed.

On windows it is possible to override DNS by making entries in the hosts file located at C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

You will then need to delete and rediscover the server.

SIM 4.2 will allow you to edit the system properties including the system name.

Re: HPSIM Server is listed with incorrect name

I want version 4.2 but I try to download it and I get an error. Besides it says I am download 4.1 with SP1-C.04.01.00.01. Althought the link reads 4.2

The Software Depot is experiencing some problems. The pages just went live but there is still an issue serving up the file. Try again in a little bit.

Re: HPSIM Server is listed with incorrect name

One caveat on 4.2's ability to edit the system name. If you change the name but your network isn't able to resolve to the right IP address using that name you can experience problems as SIM tries to address that node.

The best thing is to resolve any DNS problems. If your network administrator is incapable of doing so, override with the HOSTS file as Joel suggests.

Re: HPSIM Server is listed with incorrect name

I was able to download 4.2 BTW.

I think the main problem I am having is the name on the certificate is wrong. It must of pulled the name from DNS (wich had a few machines with the same IP)

How can I change a certificate name?

Re: HPSIM Server is listed with incorrect name

You cannot change the certificate name per see. That would defeat the point of the certificate. A new one would have to be issued.

However, is the problem that it is using the wrong hostname, or is it simply using an alternate hostname or address? I.e. servername vs. serveripaddress vs. 127.0.0.1? That used to be fixable; I suspect it still is with hp Systems Insight Manager 4.2.

Re: HPSIM Server is listed with incorrect name

The problem with the wrong host name deffinately had to do with DNS and host file discrepencies. I did get version 4.2 to properly report the right host name.

However since I first installed HPSIM somehow the certificate got the wrong host name.

I would like to have the certificate report the correct name also. Is there a way to get it re-issued?

Re: HPSIM Server is listed with incorrect name

you should be able to go to Options --> Security --> Certificates --> Server Certificates and then click "new" to create a new server certificate with the correct name.
