Hundreds of tasks

Hello,

We have an issue where all of the polling tasks seem to have hundreds of instances pending and this means that the server is constantly polling machines. Has anyone come across this, or have any ideas. The serve does not recieve traps and is very slow due to the polling that is occuring.

Any idea how I stop it ?

Please see text attachment...I don't know why it would not let me post (unless there is a word limit...sorry).

Re: Hundreds of tasks

Thanks Michael,

Your problem seems different from mine. I have now resolved it with the drastic measure of reinstalling HP SIM.

I believe the root cause of my problem was a maintenance clean up of the SQL database. I tried an awful lot of things, but in the end plumped for the re-install. Looking at the tasks they were stating a entry date of 1970, which was very strange and even though I could delete the individual tasks using command tools (GUI wouldn't respond). After rebooting the server they would all re-appear again. I could not disable the tasks and the multiples were running on all, data collection, hardware polling, software polling etc. SO as fast I could delete them, more appeared, you can imagine how many 5 minutes (h/w poll) there are since now and 1970.

It was a pain, but the management estate is only 65 servers, so not the end of the world. It has been fine since.

Sorry this is probably not helpful to you, I have seen servers down, (h/w and WAN issues) and this has not stopped my polling. It seems to delay it slightly, but I have put this down to retries.

Thanks again for your input

Re: Hundreds of tasks

Hi Derek.
Check the event log if you have events about the size of the SQL log file. I had the same issue due to a log file size limit I had set in SQL for the SIM database. If the limit is reached, you can have this behaviour.
