We hoped to be able to look at our client computers and get hardware information--the information included (sometimes) in the 'Data Collection Report'. Among the problems we are having is:
--Inconsistent report contents
--Inconsistent workstation classification (sometimes 'workstation' sometimes 'unknown')
--Failed collections (WBEM error)
Is what we are seeing unique to our environment or are others seeing this too?
Are we trying to use HPSIM for something it can't handle?
We have changed the retry # an doubled the time-out value. (didn't help)
In the past, we used earlier versions (Ver 7, I think) which required a client agent and with that version, it worked reliably.

Re: Inconsistency: do you experience it?
-Enabled
-Default Timeout: 60
-Default Retries: 2
-Default write community string:
private
-Read community strings:
1: public
2: private
On the nodes the SNMP service, under the Traps tab, is community name is public (although we find that some have PUBLIC). The HP documentation suggests this is case sensitive. Could this be part of the problem?
And, the service is set to Automatic.
Thanks for your reply.

Re: Inconsistency: do you experience it?
Yes, strings are case sensitive. And I also advise you changing your Read/write string to a more unique one for security reasons. An easy way to deploy these changes would be to use "Replicate Agents Settings" from your SIM console.

Re: Inconsistency: do you experience it?
Another big problem is that some clients do not 'show up' in the SIM listings. These clients are found by other management packages (such as McAfee).
So, my question remains: are we wasting time hoping to have all our client computers 'show up' in HPSIM?

"So, my question remains: are we wasting time hoping to have all our client computers 'show up' in HPSIM?"
Do you mean Desktops/Notebooks when you refer to client computers?
SIM is no longer supported to manage "Desktops/Notebooks", it is designed for Servers. If you interested in managing "Desktops/Notebooks" you should check this link
http://h20331.www2.hp.com/hpsub/cache/284194-0-0-225-121.html
It can be installed as a plugin to SIM.

Re: Inconsistency: do you experience it?
If the managed nodes are non-servers like Albert said, check http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1054247

Re: Inconsistency: do you experience it?
"SIM is no longer supported to manage "Desktops/Notebooks", "
I just wanted to rephrase what I said above, that since moving from Insight Manager -> SIM, HP has moved away from supporting Desktops/notebooks for SIM and concentrated on HP and third party servers.

Re: Inconsistency: do you experience it?
I personally dont have much expereience with integrating Desktops/notebooks with SIM. But I think your question was probably best answered by Richard in the first post of this thread.
