I have a DL360 which occasionaly restarts for no apparant reason. The Windows event log simply reports "The previous system shutdown was unexpected", but nothing that could explain why.
The Compaq Integrated Management Log viewer reports "Blue Screen Trap (Bugcheck, STOP: 0x00000044 (0x88398008, 0x00000CCA, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) ". But that is all that is reported. There are no details (like which program caused it).
That kind of information usually is found in a windows event log entry however.
Why isn't this error in the windows event log ?
btw. The problem itself looks like it is this one: http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/asktima/dec_third_party/00A1EC4E-0893CBA7-210318.html , or MS KB832212.

Solution
When Windows crashes it doesn't always have enough of itself left running to log an error. Since the IML is driven through the firmware of the ProLiant, it can catch things that would never show up in the OS logs.

Re: Insight Management interferes with regular windows event log operation ?
And to back up David, I have seen BSOD Events turn up in the Event Log and IML. So I'd back up the fact that IM doesn't prevent errors from reaching the Event Log.
