Insight Manager

I have just done a fresh install of Insight Manager 7 SP2. We had a older version a year or so ago, but had to use the server for another app, so I just recently install 7 SP2 on a new server using SQL 2000, database. After the 1st discovery I have alot of old errors in the Integrated Logs. Is there anyway to clear these logs. I would like to start fresh. Any info would help. Thanks.

Re: Insight Manager

You have basically 2 options...

You could browse to each machine and then manually clear the logs from the management agent, or...

You could use the Integrated Management Log viewer along with an Application Launch task and command line arguments. Look at help for the IML viewer applete (installed as part of the ProLiant Support Pack under either Start-->Programs-->Compaq Tools or more recently HP Tools. In order for this to complete properly, the "owner" of the IM7 service will need to be changed to someone with administrative privileges on each box, assumedly a domain administrator. Here's a sample command from the help file to write the log to a file and clear the log from machine 'test' :

cpqimlv.exe /m:test /save:test.iml /clear

Doing this can also be done with new HP Systems Insight Manager (the replacement for IM7) and some would say it would be even easier with hpSIM.

Re: Insight Manager

Thanks Dave, It worked great. I downloaded the IML and all current support packs and cleard all the logs. Just have to get to work
on updating the agents on all the servers.
