Install HP Insight Management Agents on XenServer 5.5

Hello,

I'm trying to install HP Insight Management Agents on a XenServer 5.5.

Usually it's the Unix/Linux administrator that do it. But he is on holiday for yet 3 weeks and i had to reinstall completely a XenServer 5.5  yesterday.

I encounter only those problem of installing HP Insight Management Agents.

I have little knowledge on Linux, but i found that the Linux admin used hp-agents-xs-8.6.0.iso (stay in /tmp directory).

I found some explanation about the install on Citrix Web Site, and on HP Web Site. But in fact it help me not.

I have extract on my windows PC the ISO, and put the file on the xenserver /tmp directory.

I lauch ./install.sh    so it install the agent.

But i never had a way to configure the snmp trap server...

So can someone explain me step by step how to do this ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Kindly

Schwabs

Re: Install HP Insight Management Agents on XenServer 5.5

You can use the System Management Home Page for the SNMP Configuration https://your_xen_server:2381

-> settings SNMP Configuration.  If you want to forward traps to your SIM Server or Insight Remote Support you nned to verify if your Xen Server has the /usr/bin/snmptrap program installed.  The rest of the setup config is the same as with Redhat or ESX ( not ESXi).   Most of the tricky parts are adressed inside this forum / community.

Re: Install HP Insight Management Agents on XenServer 5.5

Thanks for your return

I have install the Insight Agent again.

I can connect to the HP System Mamagement Homepage.

Go to Settings,  but found nothing to help me to set the trap for our Nagios server.

Then i looked on another XenServer HP SIM Homepage and found exactly the same (nothing seems to be set from the web page).

The only difference i can see is on file system, in /home directory, there is a subdirectory Nagios, wich contains Folders and Files.

And I don't know how our Admin  did this.

So if you have any suggest, i would be interresting.

Kindly

Schwabs.

Re: Install HP Insight Management Agents on XenServer 5.5

Here some pictures what you should see in the system Management Home page of your xen server.

The black bars in the SNMP config  part is the place for your management server address.

Re: Install HP Insight Management Agents on XenServer 5.5

Thanks for your reply BPE

I looked where you put the black bar to compare with existing and working SNMP configuration on a server in production, on wich HP Insight Agents was installed by our Linux and BDD Administrator.

Nothing is set  !

I looked too on various .conf  file to see if i could find some matches to our Nagios server.

Once again i did'nt find any matches...

So it's a mystery the way he install HP Insight Agents to work with the nagios servers.

I think i have to wait until he is back from holidays.

But thanks for your help
