Install of SIM 5.0

I had a working SIM 4.2 server that I attempted to upgrade today.

During the upgrade the install of SIM failed. I then tried to uninstall completely and resinstall fresh 5.0 server. Again install failed.

I'm running a Windows 2003 SP1 server with a local copy of SQL 2000 SP1.

I've attached my HPSIM.LOG file and it looks like install goes fine and then during the Agent Configuration it craps out with:

Configuration failed to complete due to the following exception:
Access is denied
[09-19-2005][11:40:08][HP Systems Insight Manager]Error:Database initialization failed
[09-19-2005][11:40:08][HP Systems Insight Manager]Error:Database initialization failed
[09-19-2005][11:40:09][HP Systems Insight Manager]Shutdown.
[09-19-2005][11:42:01][Install Shell]Shutdown
[09-19-2005][11:42:03][Setup Shell]Shutdown

I've read through this forum and there seems to be a LOT of DB issues with this install. Has any of this been fixed?

Thanks

Re: Install of SIM 5.0

I think you need to be at a minimum of service pack 3a for SQL server 2000.

Sorry i should have been more specific.. It is 3a... we patched all our SQL server after Slammer ;)

Re: Install of SIM 5.0

Are you using any special characters in the password for the username that is installing SIM? The user that is installing SIM must have access to the SQL server and the ability to create DBs.

Re: Install of SIM 5.0

No special characters and the funny thing was that it created the DB with no problems but failed afterwards doing the Agent Configuration...

I did finally manage to get it install though. I was installing it under a Domain Admin account that was in the Local Administrators group on the server.

I decided to try to install it under the Local Administrators account and the install went perfectly.

Not sure why this would work as the Domain Account had same rights as the Local Admin account..

Re: Install of SIM 5.0

The bit about the SIM 5.0 install failing during Agent Configuration got me as well. Thanks for the (inadvertant) help Mike.

There should be a way to assign points to someone who ASKS a questions (and then fixes something else during the discussion!

Cheers
