Install problems with HP Insight Control Management
I have a HP SIM environment running version 5.1. On the same server is an RDP installation running version 3.5.
I just bought a C class blade enclosure and 16 licenses for HP insight control Enterprise.
The directions say that I should be able to install insight control over my existing SIM. When I try that I get an error that says that 'IIS Default Web Site was not detected in port 80. It must be present and answering this port, in order to install ICM'
I called HP support and their information did not make much sense.
They said that since ICM is just a bundle of existing SIM modules I should not need to install ICM.
I asked about how to install the 16 ICM licenses that I have and I was told I could not since it was a SIM install and not a ICM install and in the future to buy the individual modules and not buy ICM. This does not make sense to me since the ICM directions are clearly say that you can install over SIM.
Any help is appreciated
Thanks
Chris

Re: Install problems with HP Insight Control Management
Support gave you incorrect information.
ICM does install over existing SIM and RDP installations.
To use the IC licenses, you do need to run the ICM integrated installer to add the ICM services which includes the licensing menus. (These will be located on the Deploy menu).
You have an issue with your ISS configuration. There are tips for resolving this in the User Guide troubleshooting section (text included below).
IIS error message appears during installation:
Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 or higher, installed and running with FTP service, is a prerequisite for Insight Control Management installation. Otherwise, Insight Control Management installer blocks the installation process and an error message appears.
If this message appears during installation, perform either of the following steps as appropriate to identify and solve the error:
Check for IIS and DefaultAppPool presence:
1. Click Start>Server Management to start the Server Management tool.
2. Expand Advanced Management, then expand Internet Information Services, and expand ServerName, where ServerName is the name of the computer where you are installing Insight Control Management. Then click Application Pools.
3. Verify that the DefaultAppPool is configured to run as a network service and the account credentials used by IIS to run the DefaultAppPool are valid and have enough privileges. If necessary, correct the credentials and start the Server Management tool as described in step 1.
4. If â Service Unavailableâ still appears, remove and reinstall IIS. For more information about installing IIS, see the appropriate Microsoft documentation.
Check if DefaultAppPool is properly running:
1. Open the Internet Explorer, enter http://localhost in the address field, and click Enter. If â Service Unavailableâ appears, perform the following steps.
2. Verify that the account credentials used by IIS to run the DefaultAppPool are valid and have enough privileges. If necessary, correct the credentials, then click Start>Server Management to start the Server Management tool.
3. If â Service Unavailableâ still appears, install the latest Microsoft fixes, then click Start>Server Management to start the Server Management tool.
4. If â Service Unavailableâ still appears, remove and reinstall IIS. For more information on installing IIS, see the appropriate Microsoft documentation.
